To Complete this Piano Move in bonnet hill we had to prune a tree…

In mid September we got a request from a lady to move her piano in bonnet hill from downstairs to upstairs, via the backyard. This lady was lovely, and made sure to emphasise that this job would be tricky, and indeed it was!

Her piano was located in a reasonably accessible location downstairs next to a sliding door, a few metres outside the sliding door were a few stairs that we had to take the piano down, before facing our first (of a few) big obstacles.

Around the side of her house was a narrow grass walkway which the piano would have to get up. The access to this walkway was between two large bushes, where we had to perform a 90 degree turn on an incline.

This was a lovely old piano, and if we had just forced it around the corner, it would have been scratched by the spiky bush on the lower side of the hill, so we asked the lady if she had any pruning gear that we could use to neatly cut back the bush to widen the corner.

She happily agreed, and after pruning we moved her upright piano up the steep grassy slope to the next tight corner. We set up our planks and ensured they would remain level so the piano would be safe when approaching the turn - it was a very tight squeeze around the corner as you can see.

After this there were a few more sets of 2-3 stairs to get the piano into the house, through the narrow hallway and into the bedroom where it resided. This was one of our trickier moves, and the client was very happy with the result! After the piano had been sitting still for a few days after our move, we came back for a basic tune, before a more professional tune which will be done in future.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

Common Questions

What types of piano do you move?

Baby grand, upright, and digital pianos. If it has keys and weighs more than you’d like, we move it.

Do you tune after the move?

Yes we can give your instrument an initial tune, but we recommend letting the piano settle for 1–2 weeks before tuning. We can connect you with a trusted tuner if needed.

How far do you service?

All of Tasmania. Hobart, Launceston, the northwest coast, and everywhere in between.

What about stairs or tight spaces?

This is what we specialise in. If it can be done, we will find a safe way to nurture your precious instrument all the way to its new home.
